About IB

I first encountered baccalaureate education while working at a Japanese school overseas. There was a baccalaureate department in the same building and we shared a gymnasium. One day I had the opportunity to watch the baccalaureate department practice their graduation ceremony. I was overwhelmed by the difference in culture and beliefs. They were on stage playing violins and flutes. Their performances are not that great. But they all had smiles on their faces. Of course, the teachers who were watching them were also full of smiles. After that, I began to seriously consider what I should do to help children live with music.

I took a workshop on baccalaureate education. I also became friends with the baccalaureate music teacher at the time and observed many of her classes.
She was creating classes that incorporated Dalcroze, Kodaly, and Orff. And we had a lot in common. I think I was very fortunate.

I continue to use this resource today to deepen my understanding of baccalaureate education.
It is very comprehensive and I am thrilled to be able to learn for free.
Please give it a try.

About Immersion Education

I am currently enrolled in a world music course on edX offered by MIT. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) The course can be taken anywhere in the world and is taught in English.
It includes instructional videos, interactive video games, and the opportunity for students to film themselves conducting a certain task and submitting their work for peer evaluation.
Of course, there is also a platform for discussion where everyone communicates in English. While I was not aware if this was a part of an immersion education, I can confidently say that it is.
If you are interested, you can check out the link of the course below:

You can also watch a course called "Listening to Music with Craig Wright" at Yale University on YouTube.
I found this lecture very interesting and I wanted to share it with you all. I take the time to watch these lectures, and even check the subtitles to better understand the English being used.
The link for the Yale Course on Youtube can be accessed below:

Studying the content that interests me keeps me motivated to learn beyond any language barriers. I encourage you to give it a try!

I would like to introduce some of my favorite Youtube channels. First, we have the Bow tie music channel, which was made by a real music teacher. He is living in the USA. His videos are really simple. For instance, there are students who play some instruments with Carl Orff, then some of the students dance with New England dancing masters music. I've never listened to their music but it sounds really lively. If you are a music teacher I recommend watching his videos!

?The next channel I'd recommend would be a recommendation from the bow tie channel which is called the musication?channel. I use their videos over 50 times in my face-to-face and virtual classes. You can play the instruments as if they were a game while you watch their videos. Many Children love this channel!

The last one on the list is ?María José Sánchez Parra channel. Maria is also a music teacher for kinder but recently she might be teaching at college. She is studying Dalcroze rhythmic, which is directly related to my class.

AdobeStock_90643537.jpegI am really excited to start an online music lesson course. Actually, I am taking online English lessons everyday. I had a?virtual workshop with a Baccalaureate International organisation about over 3 years ago, but now I can remember Ms Karen. She is an amazing facilitator and her participants are still friends in my heart. I acquired some skills using Jambord, Kahoot! and canva. We learned how to use technology in our classes. and the most important thing is to always be open to asking questions. It was uncomfortable for me at first, because I had been learning in the Japanese education system. In the Japanese classes I took, I always found the right answer. There was one correct answer and the rest were wrong. *But there were no right or wrong answers to the questions being asked at the workshop. If there was anything undesirable, it was quiet, which, in Japan would be regarded as being polite and taking the class. Through this experience I changed what kind of music teacher I wanted to be and I will put it into practice different ways of interacting and engaging with the participants through online music lessons.
